Orlando di Lasso - Susanne un jour

 

Lassus’ 5-part French Chanson, Susanne un jour, first appeared in print in 1567 and quickly became very popular. It was one of the most widely used pieces found in division manuals with at least nine versions surviving today.

 

These backing tracks are compatible with

  • Girolamo dalla Casa (2 versions from Il vero modo di diminuir, 1584). Fits with London Pro Musica REP7
  • Bassano (1 version). Fits with London Pro Musica REP7

 

The accompaniment takes the form of an organ playing the bottom four vocal parts, leaving the top part (‘Superius’) to be ornamented.
