Jean-Marie Leclair – Violin/Flute Sonata in E minor,

Op. 9, No. 2

 

From Quatrième livre de sonates à violon seul avec la basse continue (Fourth Book of Sonatas for Violin and Continuo), op.9, 1743.

 

Leclair indicates that this violin sonata 'qui peut ce jouer sur la Flute Allemande' (can be played by the German flute), and is most often performed today by flautists. 

Compatible with Schott edition, and the first edition.

 

Performance notes:

  • The accompaniment part follows the stated tempo throughout with a slight retardation at cadence points.
  • In the first movement, extra notes are added in the pedal points to aid synchronisation.
  • All tracks have been recorded in a mild historical temperament suitable for playing with modern and baroque violins.
